These sculptures possess a shimmering effervescence and are composed of curated moments within paintings chosen for their complexity of hue. The blue face of each sculpture is surrounded by a variety of additional moments from painting series also represented in my current show “This Blue of Distance”.

Each silk sculpture has six unique pieces that have been expertly fabricated to the highest standard and stretched over a custom built frame measuring 24 x 24 inches on the face and 6 x 24 inches on each of four sides. Four silk sculptures are available. These pieces look stunning when hung adjacent to natural light.

Poetic Embodiment: New Work by Eyenga Bokamba

Bokamba presents This Blue of Distance, a series of paintings and light sculptures that expand our ideas of contemporary abstract painting through a poetic embodiment of intentionality. By intentionally centering joy as an activating force, Bokamba’s practice becomes an artistic ecosystem informed by ideas of transformation and change and a rigorous commitment to curiosity. Conceptually based on the complexities of the world and our role within it, these works offer us a poetic, visual language for understanding. Through visual mapping and abstract mark-making Bokamba asks the viewer to consider a nuanced language of joy and contemplate the emotive gestures and practical transparency through which we may open up possibilities for re-imagination of the world and ourselves.

“These intentionally abstract paintings embody the ideas of joy, yet also reflect serendipity, openness, walking in the present challenging times. The intentionally centering of joy as an idea and activating force comes through the work from gesture and color and feeling. Yes, today’s world is complex and our work is never done to be an active part of change but there are also moments of quiet and of reflection. These works offer us a poetic, visual language for such reflection and understanding; for embodiment. Through visual mapping and abstract mark-making Bokamba asks the viewer to consider a nuanced language of joy and contemplate the emotive gestures and practical transparency through which we may open up possibilities for reimagining the world and ourselves.”
